Polystyrene is the synthetic aromatic hydrocarbon polymer made from monomers called styrene. It can be solid or foamed. General-purpose polystyrene is hard, rather brittle and clear. It is an inexpensive resin per weight. Uses are protective packing such as jewel cases and packing peanuts and also storage of optical discs such as Cds and DVDs, containers, bottles, lids, tray tumblers, disposable cutlery and in making models.
