- It is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate. It is widely used as fertiliser and main constituents in many forms of blackboard/ sidewalk chalk, drywall and plaster. Mostly found in layered sedimentary deposits in association with anhydrite, calcite, dolomite, halite and sulfur.
